With hindsight I can see that I have been a sculptor since age ten, when I started whittling my own toys. I carved precious Australian timbers as a hobby during my working career.
In 1998 I gave away my “real job” and moved to Batemans Bay to pursue my art practice full time. I now work mostly in metal, both new and second hand, occasionally I will include some Huon pine or Australian red cedar in a metal sculpture.
Currently I am teaching myself to use a new tig welder and to join copper in sculptural pieces. Not so easy because of the heat required. I am enjoying the challenge and have made a couple of predominantly copper works.
I really enjoy the way a piece of equipment or a new material can lead off in a different direction, this makes my art practice a continual voyage of discovery.
