Calling all Artists – Entries open for the River of Arts Trail
27 September to 7 October 2024
For 20 years the Arts Trail has been the heart of the River of Art Festival showcasing diverse art forms including visual arts, music, dance, performance art, installations and workshops.
The 2024 Festival will feature the treasured Arts Trail that encourages people to visit open studios and galleries along the NSW South Coast to view art and meet artists in their studios. The Trail also features workshops where visitors can come and boost their creativity and learn new techniques from the many skilled artists.
We want to see shopfronts, businesses, clubs, pubs, nooks, crannies, spaces and places across the region bursting with art, sound, music, dance, performance and fun!

Funding for the arts in Australia is more stretched than ever. A greater number of artists and organisations compete for a diminishing pool of government and corporate support and many well-known festivals have cancelled or ‘paused’ for 2024.
This year we are introducing a registration fee for all program entries. We need to help cover the costs of running the Festival including marketing and venues. We have not and will not charge a commission for Arts Trail participants. The fees are as follows:
- $30 per individual artist
- $30 plus $10 for each artist if doing a group show to a max of $100
- $125 for an organisation
Inclusion in the Program is open for all artists, makers, performers, musicians and venues in the Eurobodalla shire and complimentary Artist profiles will be added to our Arts Directory.

Barunguba
The River of Art has had the privilege of facilitating a new creative project being created by the Djaadjwan Dancers and local digital artist Scott Baker and motion graphics artist Duncan Irving.
This team of amazing creatives undertook a three day creative development at the Bay Pavilions in Batemans to work on a hybrid theatre production called Barunguba. Let’s hope we can present this at the Festival!
Barunguba is the telling of a tragedy of the First Nations people from Narooma that happened when the tribe were travelling to the island to feast on seabirds. The story will be told through dance and songs of the Djaadjawan Dancers to a backdrop of video projections and animation including motion tracking technology and particle emitters.
The team have realised two of the seven scenes of the story and we are actively seeking support to continue the development of this project to share this story. A video is on its way but until then here are a couple of photos from the creative development.

FLASH FICTION!
The River of Art Festival in association with the South Coast Writers Centre is delighted to announce a Flash Fiction Competition, with winners to be announced at a literary event during the Festival.
Eurobodalla means ‘land of many waters’. Writers were encouraged to include the theme or words ‘many waters’ in their work in some way, and to interpret the theme in a broad and creative way.
The competition winner will receive $500 and runner ups will receive book vouchers. Short-listed entrants will be invited to read their work at our literary event where the winners will be announced.
