A trip to the north east coast of Tasmania saw the genesis of these paintings in a series of plein air sketches. These sketches where reduced and reworked into multiple, compositional studies. The first washes were in watercolour, the only medium that truly delivers tantalising transparency. I wanted to capture the turquoise water and famous red rocks of the region. Finally, a layer of broken colour in dots of pigment just suggest the rocks and trees surrounding the bays. I deliberately chose a slow and steady process for these paintings because it suited my purpose of conveying peace and tranquillity.
