Kerry Johns Open Studio

Kerry will opens her studio to art lovers interested in landscape painting

Walk into an artist’s studio and realise this is a place where the daily work is to wrestle and fail and only sometimes to win. The gift of creation does not come easily to any artist, writer, musician. The place where that struggle goes on may show no signs of the battle. You are invited on Sunday 5th October, to walk in to my studio and see the paintings that l’ve made there. You may even buy one which would give us both joy. You will be very welcome to visit.

More information

An intensification of meaning, witnessed in a new series of twelve small panoramic paintings, will be on exhibition in Kerry Johns’ studic in Broulee. All were made out of intense emotional responses to many familiar south coast places as well as to her own anguish at the advance of a neuro-degenerative disease. The series which has taken 18 months, marks a change to more expressionist painting language.
At the same time there has been a greater preoccupation with the practice of starting the painting ‘en plein air! Visual observation of the complexity of a landscape has given her access to an inexhaustible visual field that is far richer than memory. Her practice of translating her ‘subjective impression’ into pictorial form she feels is developing a poetic understanding within each work.
