Here’s your chance to join the recycled art movement and become an exhibitor! Young folks aged between 16 and 26 can also enter their work in the Lanterns from Waste Competition, first prize is $650, second prize is $450 and People’s Choice wins $250. Register here.

In this all-ages workshop, you can transform plastic bottles into lanterns which will feature in various installations at our festival finale, Luminous: Celebrating Place, on September 23.

In this workshop, we will be creating a series of lanterns for the River of Art Luminous Festival, and we will be entering the creative world of waste art, the practice of reusing everyday materials to create works that are imaginative, expressive, often educational and at times challenging.

The workshop will work through the creative design phase to the completed lanterns ready for an electrician to wire making them festival ready. Working with milk containers, PVC off-cuts, discarded plastic garden netting and packing materials we have a full day of experimenting and developing techniques in a group situation to achieve our objectives. Lunch is included too!

Bookings are essential. Participants must be aged 16 or over.
