Naomi Crowther’s work explores the effects of time in nature on the human condition, the value of self reflection and noticing often overlooked topics, including feelings towards and connections with the land and each other.
With a background in design, textiles and homewares, Naomi illustrated and wrote for Australian Home Beautiful Magazine and appeared on Foxtel’s ‘Selling Houses Australia’ with her poppy paintings, which were her mainstay muse for many years.
A move to the Far South Coast of NSW in 2011 saw a shift in her work, taking in the coastal bushland and seascapes. She is driven the impact of consumerism, particularly plastics and pollutants in the ocean, which directly affect marine flora and fauna. Her works ‘Aquarian Regrowth’ and ‘Finding Deep Clarity’ describe her concerns for the need to do more to help our oceans. Time in nature can change your feelings about things. ‘When you start to respect the world around you and learn about it and see what is happening to it, you want to care for it and make a change.’
