The vessels are thrown on the wheel and left to settle before being gently coaxed and manipulated into a new unique form, they are twice fired, then glazed or left with the natural clay on the outside.
The alchemy of clay fascinates me, particularly porcelain and its varying depths of luminosity. I’m drawn to the process of the making, the feeling of a spiritual connection with the clay and the subsequent transformation from a malleable substance to a beautiful, vitrified object.
I delight in the relationships that develop between the forms as they stand together. The twirling shapes, light bouncing off the curves and the negative space become part of a grouping, like elements of a poetic harmony.
