Seventeen years ago, the River of Art festival was launched by a small group of enthusiastic artists who volunteered their time to create a week-long celebration of creativity in our region.

Now a registered Not for Profit Association, the River of Art has won awards, been recognised by Destination NSW and is supported by the Eurobodalla Shire Council as one of only two annual Hallmark events in the shire.

The festival runs for 10 days every year and includes over 120 individual events in communities from Durras in the north to Bermagui in the south. It is a non-curated, umbrella event, contributed to by arts organisations and individuals from within and beyond the region. Every year it grows in diversity.

After a couple of COVID affected years, we’re planning a bigger and better Festival in 2022 that will run from 16 to 25 September. There will be a range of open studios, galleries, and performances concluding with a spectacular event, Luminous – Art After Dark.

Luminous will feature an internationally recognised show set to music with vivid colours and imagery erupting over the beautiful Moruya River. Festivities will be complemented by an artisans and local produce marketplace, performing artists including street performers and live bands, themed feature lights throughout the parkland and a kids zone. This will be a ticketed event.

Luminous will be held from 4.00pm to 9.00pm on Saturday 24 September and provide a colourful and fun focal point in the heart of the Eurobodalla to close the Festival. It will celebrate place, and highlight the rich creative arts offering and produce of the region.

Volunteering for Luminous

We are seeking people to join our dedicated team of friendly volunteers, both new and returning, to help with Luminous. You need to be able to commit to a minimum of a three hour shift across at least one (but not limited to) of the following days – Friday 22 September to Sunday 25 September.

Volunteering for Luminous will provide you with free entry to the event as a thank you for your support.

Please note that successful volunteers will also need to attend a pre-event briefing session and must also provide a current Working with Children Check.
