20th River of Art presents Bodalla Weekend

The River of Art Festival is back this Spring, marking its 20th year of celebrating creativity, community, and the stunning South Coast of New South Wales. From 27 September to 7 October, this milestone event will stretch from Durras in the north to Bermagui in the south, offering almost 100 unique events across 11 days and 100 kilometres of inspiring coastline.

A highlight of this year’s event is Bodalla Weekend, taking place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September. Throughout Bodalla creative juices will be flowing and visitors and locals will have the chance to see beautiful works of art, get hands-on in creative workshops and take in some live music.

River of Art chair, Leanne Joyce said, “The beautiful scenery around Bodalla has always inspired artists and the plethora of creative residents in the village is testament to that. Open studios, competitions, workshops, live music, gallery exhibitions and even a live mural creation by Lise Brosch will delight the crowds.”

Catch the Destash Markers Market at Artisans Nest featuring work by local artists. 6 & Out will feature an eye-opening exhibition by photographer Debbie Osiecki.

Hunt Gather Grow’s Axe Handle Art competition and exhibition is sure to be popular along with artist Mary Anderson’s exhibition, open studio and her free workshops each day. Just nearby find Sonja Grant’s artworks at the Bodalla Nursery.

Gallery Bodalla is bringing together the beautiful and vibrant paintings of Stuart Whitelaw and Ivana Gattegno in ‘Moments of Awe’, an exhibition featuring our much loved coastline.

Artist Stuart Whitelaw says, “The landscape and light of the far South Coast are always changing, in transition. The familiar places transform through wind and tide, water and light. These works are drawn from moments of awe, when I am compelled to just stop and experience a place in time.”

Bodalla’s beautiful All Saints Church – well worth a visit in itself and known for its exceptional acoustics – will host the Catalina Clarinet Collection on Saturday at 4.00pm, just $10 at the door. Bodalla Pub will have live music with Chango Tree playing from 1-4pm. Food is available from Bodalla Dairy Shed and Bodalla Bakery.

Keep an eye out for the River of Art Pink Cube – what will hit hold in Bodalla? Check it out next to Hunt Gather Grow at 20 Princes Highway.
