2023 River of Art Festival – Celebrating Place

artist & title

The River of Art Festival is back in 2023 to celebrate the arts scene and promote the wonder of the NSW south coast.

Now in its 18th year, the 10-day showcase of culture, music, visual art, theatre, and creative workshops will run from Friday 15 to Sunday 24 September 2023.  The Festival will again feature a very special closing event on Saturday 23 September featuring light art installations and projections, music, food and night markets.

“Our festival theme this year is Celebrating Place. We know how much residents and visitors alike love the south coast – from the rivers, mountains and beaches, to the culture and history of the Yuin nation. These features inspire, engage and connect the community and are celebrated by artists, performers, writers and poets”, said Festival Chair Leanne Joyce.

The River of Art Festival is now inviting proposals from artists, the community and businesses for this year’s festival by producing creative works or providing a venue or gallery to host events.

The deadline for proposals is Wednesday 12 July.  Inclusion in the program is free. It’s easy to enter – just complete the entry form on our website or email inquiries to festival@riverofart.com.au.”

The River of Art Festival is committed to showcasing our talented artists, promoting the culture and beauty of our region, and uplifting the community who’ve had a tough time over recent years following the bushfires and the impact of COVID-19.

Last year the Festival drew an audience of over 12,500 people and we featured over 420 artists and 130 events over 10 days. It drew both locals as well as visitors and boosted the local economy.

“Our review of the 2022 Festival highlighted the importance of community and the vibrance and talent of the creative community. We look forward to delivering a program that celebrates place, strengthens the local arts sector and encourages community participation,” said Leanne Joyce.

The River of Art Festival receives funding and support from the Eurobodalla Shire Council, Australian and NSW Governments, South East Arts and the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal.
